We visited Giverny last week, during our stay in Paris. Most of the flowers were gone but we could see what a beautiful garden it must be in the spring. It is certainly a beautiful place.

My sister and I stayed at this great inn we found on your site, Les Agapanthes. I noticed that the wonderful inn is no longer listed on the site. The host, Alan, was so wonderful and he kept us calm during a terrible ordeal, you see, we were there on Sept 11, 2001. The people of Giverny were so gracious and helpful, and I'm happy to report that our families turned out ok (although we did lose some friends that day). I am sorry to see that the Inn is no longer there, it was a beautiful place. As is Giverny, it is magnificent and I would come back to paint there again.

I visited Giverny last summer with my husband and son, and we thoroughly enjoyed our day. The gardens are just beautiful, and Monet's home is most impressive. A very good site and generally very informative. We have just returned from
one week in the area, staying at a gite close to Giverny which we found via
a link from this site. Our one criticism is that the site does not mention the
fact that Monet's house and gardens are closed on Mondays specifically to allow
those who wish to paint there to do so. Our son, who visiited the Foundation
with us last week, is a first year GCSE Art student, and had hoped to be able to
paint a scene by the Water-Lily pond. Because we knew the house and gardens were
shut on Mondays, we opted to visit the following day and were refused entry because
my son had his painting materials with him. We were only allowed in after we put
these back in our car.
Perhaps you would be good enough to make mention, in this site, that the reason the
house is closed on Mondays is to allow access to those who wish to paint the truly
spectacular flower garden and lily-pond. With hindsight, it is quite obvious that it
would be extremely difficult to get round the paths, especially near the lily-pond,
with scores of artists setting up their easels and canvasses. Nevertheless, it would
save much disappointment in future if it were made clear to prospective visitors,
especially those with an artistic interest, that they may only paint in the gardens on
Mondays

My wife(above) did not mention the wonderful place we stayed in Mouline de Connelles about half an hour away from the gardens. It is a superbe hotel 4 star with 14 rooms. We had a suite overlooking the amazing lake and gardens. A wonderful introduction to Normandy. All the buildings in Normandy are so stunning. We also visited Rouen where Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake. The next day we travelled to the beaches and the American Cemetery which is well worth a visit whilst you are in the area. Deauville is also an amazing town to see. We were there for four days in all and I highly recommend doing this. We travelled from Newhaven to Dieppe but due to bad weather we were sick, so I therefore recommend the ferry from Dover to Calais which we will do in future as it is a smoother and shorter crossing.

We visited last week with some friends and we were all enchanted particularly with the lily pond. We stood and gazed across from the little bridge to the main bridge and took many photographs. When looking for the Hotel Baudy we were rather surprised that it was so badly signposted and such a long distance from the gardens. This is not made very clear in the web details. The restaurant was pleasant and had atmosphere but the service was very sullen and not welcoming at all. Sadly we were disappointed in this particular visit after reading all about it. However, our memories of the gardens and Monet's house will always be with us. By the way, there are many little places to eat on the way to Baudys and they are not mentioned.

The highlight of my visit to Paris to stay with friends was my visit to Giverny. It was wonderful - like walking into one of Monet's pictures - beautiful gardens - heavenly house where every room was sunlit with colour and atmosphere, one could almost hear Monet entertaining his friends and family......over good food and wine in real French style - with every room overlooking the gardens - my real dream to visit again in all the various seasons and to stay locally in Giverny to enjoy the whole experience and stay at a real French hostelry - with such wonderful French hospitality - indeed one could actually see the joy and great pleasure experienced by all the visitors to his home and garden - it was magical

What a wonderful painter Monet was! His techniques and color blending were what initially drew me to love Art. Now, as an Elementary School Art Teacher Monet is featured at all grade levels every year and a major unit on him is presented every three years to the Kindergarten through Second Grade students. I can only be so lucky to one day visit and possibly sit and paint where this master once created his Art for the world - first in his physical gardens, then in his Artistic representations of them! i liked cluade monet even although i have never made friends with him or even meet him but he sounded a great kind intellegent person and i have many of his pictures my favorite one is the 'beneath the lilacs'it has great effects .i shall be visiting claudes house which is open to the public on my trip to france which shall be happening this year in may or june.
