Le Livre d'Or 2000
Guestbook 2000

We visited Giverny in October of 2000. Even though it was raining, we were enchanted by the gardens and the little bridges. One of the guides at the house took my daughter's picture and sent it to her. Unfortunately, we lost it.

I would like to ask permission to use some of the portraits you have on your site of Monet himself. I would use them for a project at school. I am creating an html, (which will eventually be published on the Internet as a link to my school's website-http://www.steugene.pvt.k12.wi.us/church) for one of my classes and under the law, would need your approval to use the pictures. Please send a reply to the indicated e-mail address. (It is the address of my school). By the way, your site is great! Thanks!

I have studied Monet's home for years through books. I plan to build a replica of the home on a rural farm we own, next to a small pond. I have been collecting furniture and accessories to furnish it. We plan to visit Giverny this spring if possible. I studied in Paris for 3 months in 1964. I love French and many things about the country except for one thing- they eat horses and I am a horse lover. Other than that, I enjoy the culture and look forward to a return to France next year. I also am an impressionist painting fan and live near the restored home and studio of one of America's great impressionists, T.C. Steele of Nashville,Indiana.

I had the pleasure of meeting a resident of Vernon, FRANCE
this past weekend. She was one of two guests at a fellow
Kiwanian's home. Annie was a great ambassador for not only
Vernon but for France. I also met Superintendent Lee Atkinson of the Luxembourg American Cemetery. I am from a
French/Italian family and listening to Lee speak French with
a southern accent was very......very.......different. As President of the Suisun City club, I had the pleasure of
acknowledging them as Honorary Kiwanians, thanks to our
immediate past president Ken Delfino and his wife Melba who
were the hosts....

I have visited le Cemetiere Americain and friends in Sainte-Mere Eglise for the past five years and did not know that Giverny was so close. I have a new friend from Vernon and decided to look up this site and the photos depict a tranquil and colorful area. My city is the same population as Vernon with an emphasis on the water...but, alas, we do not have a Claude Monet to our credit! My wife and I enjoy Monet's paintings. We will take time to visit your region next spring.

Bravo! well done I fellin love with Giverne and Monets garden during a visit to France last year. Finding this site was a wonderful surprise. C'etait une reve d'avoir faites une visite a Giverny.
It is a dream to have made a visit to Giverny.

My sister and I were just there in early August and were struck by the serenity and peacefulness of this lovely site, the gardens, the home, the waterways, the bridges. In spite of the many summer visitors, one could sit and reflect quietly. There was a certain reverance among the visitors when we were there.
Wonderful!

I have been an inhabitant of Vernon for 15 years and it appears to me that your site does not retranscribe exactly the town of Vernon, it shows beautiful images of agreement, but does not say all! Indeed it is not rare to see people being made steal their bag or attacked full Saturday afternoon in the centre town. The H.L.M of Vernon named " the zup " or " Valmeux " are a true problem for this city, at the beginning of the summer, a building of the college public (located in full medium with valmeux) as burn, about thirty cars were also burn this year. Vernon is thus a city to be avoided. And the mayor does not do anything to arrange that, it prefers to make sites with splendid images, texts seducers to attract the tourists rather than to provide the funds necessary to the public security. On this, I leave you.

Our first trip to France and we were fortunate to take a tour to Giverny. I'm a watercolorist who wishes I could stay for days and paint. Tours are too short...I will be back some day to spend more time in Giverny/Vernon to drink in this lovely place. All my time was spent in the gardens with no time for the gift shop. Maybe you could have an on-line gift shop? Merci to the Claude Monet Foundation for sharing this slice of heaven with us!

My husband and I visited Monet's beautiful gardens April 25th of this year. It was breathless with its beauty.
May I suggest those going to visit and buying items, have one stand in this line, and the other store out back and buy seeds to plant at home. Not many knew about the seeds and some who did, didn't have the time to buy all they wanted to beause the lines were long. On a tour time is limited.
I bought extra seed packets, why I don't know, but when we got back to the bus people we knew from our tour didn't have a chance to buy. So I sold them my extra things. Because you only have one chance buying from Monet's garden it was my pleasure to share. So have a plan of attack so you can buy all those neet things, to bring home.

I just got back from Giverny. I was ther from May 20 thru May 25. then I went to Paris for six days.
I had one of the best experences of my life in Giverny. I am an artist. I painted in Monet's Garden which was so beautiful. What a feeling to walk in his shoes.
I painted at the Hotel Baudy ate there also. Great food and wonderful people who work there. I also painted and stayed at the Bed and Breakfast Les Agapanthes. Wonderful,Wonderful!!
Our host Alain is the best! I stayed with three other women. He made us feel like we were home. I met a wonderful artist Christophe De'marez. Must see his beautiful work. He is very charming as well.
He has a gallery in Giverny. A must see! I could go on and on. But one should go even if you are not an artist. It is so easy to fall in love with this beautiful village and its people. If anyone should get an
e-mail for Christophe De'marez please send to me. thank you

I finally got to visit Giverny in August '99 with my daughter. It was splendid, although the crowds were horrendous and many quite rude. We took the train from Paris, rented a Citroen (which we also located through your site) and we were off for a wonderful visit to the gardens, a tour of the house, a drive to a little village where we had a splendid lunch, then climbed the stairs through a castle into its ruins to the top of the world with a vista of the Seine that could never be described. We had such fun and it will be a trip we won't forget. Back in Paris, I took her to the Musee D'Orsay (one of my favorites -- my 5th visit) and she loved seeing the paintings of where she had been earlier. You do a lovely job and I am so glad to have found you.

My husband and I visited Giverny in late April, 2000.
I've never been more moved by a garden. It was sweet and
very unpretentious,a very different kind of garden than most that you see in France. It is obvious to me why Monet painted the way he did-he was in love with the vision that he'd created in the gardens.

I am looking for any information about Robert Giraudineau,
and his role in French history. The deeds of Giraudineau,
his acts, relation to Louis, lands he may have been granted,
his relation to the Church, his treatment of his People,
battles he fought or led. I am not sure why I ask. Something
I felt when I saw the image on the home page of the Hotel Saint
Louis in Paris, where a Friend had recently visited.

A sculpture/statue of Him is displayed on the page
http://www.hotelsaintlouis.fr , and at
http://www.123france.com/europe/france/paris/hotels/hosloui.htm

If You can send any information, or sources
for information on this Person,
I would very much appreciate it.

Thank You.

Dear creators of this wonderful and the most informative site on Monet I've ever visited on the Net, why don't make it even better pointing out the original sizes of the artists' works, not just posters'. I believe it would help us, his adorers, to imagine paintings we can't see ourselves. Merci baucoup!

Monet was my mother's favorite artist - the house was filled with his prints and each year a new Monet calendar was placed on the wall in the kitchen.
How fitting then, that my 11 year old son has picked Monet as his favorite artist to write about for his Grade 6 French Immersion program. Someday we hope to travel to Giverny and see it all for ourselves!

Bravos! bon travail.

At 3:30 this morning, I was awakened wonderong what lies ahead in Giverny. Went on the Net, found your site and was mesmerized by the beauty of Monet's surroundings, I know I must get there soon. On April 10 to be exact, the day after I finish the Paris Marathon 2000. I planted 75 different varieties of nasturtiums last summer, am enchanted by its beauty and to my delight, Monet favored the same. C'est belle jardin!!! Merci beaucoup!
I look forward to dining and seeing madame Baudy's rose garden too albeit the roses may not be in full bloom at the time.

What a great site! I wish I had access to it before I visited Monet's Gardens in 1996! It brought back all the marvelous experiences and adventures of visiting first with a group and then finding my way back there from Paris ,on a Monday with a reservation, to paint in the gardens! Everyone kept saying "Ferme`! when I was was making my way from Gare Lazare to Vernon and on to the foundation! I would suggest artists check to see if the waterlily garden is filled with water on the day they plan to paint. I was told after I found my spot around the pond that this was the day of the year they cleaned the pond! It was quite fascinating to see how the pond is constructed and functions and how the plantings are really anchored in cement pots under the water!!! Nevertheless the resulting sketches and painting and memories of the kind people I met along the way is forever etched in my psyche. Merci` Beaucoup for bringing it all back. Continued success. I look forward to visiting again someday, now with even more ways to enjoy the visit!

This may sound unbelievable, but one of my family friends acquired an original Monet. He bought it from one of his friends in Poland that had bought it from a Jewish person during the Nazi occupation of Poland in WWII. Since he bought this painting, (and many others, a Degas, Manet, etc.) he has traveled around the world trying to sell it. He needs to have these authenticated, but he doesn't know how. He has however had these analyzed in downtown Chicago, for authenticity. The analyzation report said that the paint is indeed from the 1800's and that the signature was applied while the paint was stll wet. I am trying to help him generate some interest in these paintings, so they can get into a museum where they belong. If anyone has any questions, or wants to know more about these please e-mail me, I will be happy to answer any questions. My e-mail address is VioletSky4 at aol.com Thanks.

Charing-cross.

A wonderful site. Friends of ours from Victoria Canada who went to Giverny last year said it was a MUST. They suggested going on Monday as the museums are closed and you can wander around by yourself, stay overnight, and see the gardens and Monet's House etc. on Tuesday. They stayed at La Reserve and raved about it. It was so great to find this site and all the information we need the same night I talked to my friend. If anyone has any other tips - we will be in Paris from 6th to 12th May this year.

Six of us from Springfield will be arriving in Paris on September 1, 2000 and would like to visit Giverny on the 3rd, 4th, or 5th. We are all artists and are interested in seeing, among other things, Monet's house and gardens. I would appreciate information on the best way to reach there from Paris and especially, information on the hours for visiting, painting, and whether reservations are necessary. We will be going on to St.Remy on the 6th for a painting workshop. Thank you so much for the beautiful scenes on your web page. I can hardly wait to be there in person.

I have been trying to think of something to state about
this site, but words fail me. Visiting this site has been
a romantically magical experience for me because I was
reminded of my visit to Paris and Giverny two years ago.
I am yearning to see more of France and I would love nothing
more than to spend a considerable amount of time studying
Monet as well as other impressionists in that beautiful
country. Though I have chosen words to post here to offer gratitude to the creators and maintainers of this site and pleasant readings for future visitors, I am undoubtedly left with the sense that any words that I could have chosen would never truly be able to express the happiness and romanticism that I experienced here. Thank you again.

I heard of the terrible wind storms after Christmas on National Public Radio. I am amazed and extremely grateful that Giverny survived so well. Special thanks to all the people who worked so hard with the clean-up afterwards. I enjoy visiting this sight. It is a lovely 5 minute escape from work!
