April 1st thru November 1st everyday except Monday Groups: Booking is mandatory, please contact chateaudebizy@gmail.com Rates 2015 :
Bizy castle, hidden behind trees that are several hundred years old, offers visitors the pleasure of discovering its park and the majesty of its formal courtyard. Like the castle, the park is classified as a Historic Monument and features a water garden evoking the baroque splendours of the 18th C. The castle was built by Constant d'Ivry for Fouquet, Duke of Belle-Isle, Marshal of France, around 1740. |
|
Famous for its stables inspired by those of Versailles, Bizy was
successively owned by King Louis XV, the Duke of Penthievre and King
Louis-Philippe. Baron Schickler retained the stables and built
a new central building, in the style of the great Italian
palaces that can still be seen today.
The compulsory guided tour (in French, but written explanations in English on request) will lead you through the Grand Salon, the drawing room, and the dining-room. All these rooms are beautifully furnished with rare antics. (18th C. wood panelling and tapestries, music intruments...) The visit of the chateau, which is still inhabited by the heirs of the Duke, ends with a look at the stables and the small collection of horse drawn carriages. |
