Giverny and Vernon : Castles
|
Castles abound in the surroundings of Giverny ! Children love playing
knights in the medieval fortresses of
Chateau Gaillard (20 km) and
Gisors.
In Vernon, the well preserved Archives tower was part of the medieval castle. It is open on special days to climb to the top. In La Roche-Guyon, (10 km) underground stairs link the classical castle to the keep at the top of the hill. It has an aventurous flavour to take this secret passage whose steps carved in the rock are very high. You will emerge at the bottom of the tower, where the view on the Seine valley is breathtaking. We highly recommand to visit this castle full of surprises. Children will be taken back to the times of kings and queens in Vernon at chateau de Bizy. It has impressive stables and a large park. The castle still belongs to a family, it is magnificently furnished. Therefore, guided visit is mandatory. For patient children only. In Conches en Ouche (45 km), the medieval castle stands in a park in the town centre. Take advantage of your visit to discover the other treasures of Conches : the wonderful stained-glasses of the church, the glass museum and the traditional art museum. |
