Your site is beautiful! Just the thing to wander through after
a cold, grey winter's day. Being a botanical artist, I especially
enjoyed the information and photos of the gardens. Thank you

What a nice site!
I visited and sketched Les Andelys and Chateau Gaillard some years ago.
As a restorating architect for castles and member of "Deutsche Burgenvereinigung e.V. - www.deutsche-burgen.org" I have a big website "Altbau und Denkmalpflege Informationen"
http://home.t-online.de/home/konrad-fischer.
There are a lot of Castle links and other topics of interest.
I will give you a link in the Castle-Site.
For not german speaking visitors, I have some english pages and the translator.co.com service to translate the pages online in a lot of common languages.

Look in!

As a result of recent renewed efforts to trace our family genealogy, we have successfully documented Vernon family ancestry in England in the 16th century. With this connection, we have additionally found the historical roots of the Vernon family in France. This is a very interesting and well done website and the historical references are invaluable to completing our family history with information beyond the usual names and dates. We were on holiday in Paris and the Loire River Valley during the summer of last year but did not venture to Giverny and Vernon. We will certainly put the region on our travel itinerary for our next visit!

I'm sorry that my French is so terrible. I will be studying Monet in a major research assignment for final year of school next year. I am inspired by his life and work and am amazed that there are so many people around the world who are as passionate about Monet as I am. I think that this website is terrific!

recent trip to Giverny. The fun of driving such a classic really made the
day a special experience. Since this was the first time I had rented a car in
France I was not sure how it would work out, but you made the experience
simple and easy. The car rental turned out to be the best deal in France for
pure fun at an economical rate. Rest assured we will tell our friends and

On April 27, 1999 my husband and I welcomed our daughter into the world, Breanna Monet Crites. We chose her middle name because of the joy and beauty Claude Monet brought to the world. Our hope is that she can carry on the name in a similar way. I hope that some day we can bring her to France to see the garden with her own eyes.

We're glad we discovered your site and rented the 2CV to rove around Vernon. Unfortunately one day was too short.
The 2CV was a blast to drive -- a four-wheel enclosed motercyle is the closest description. It was, of course, very convenient to have a low cost (and low speed/low risk :-)) means of personal transportation.
Appreciate the English-speaking, helpful and friendly people.
We hope to visit Paris soon and will certainly include another Vernon visit using the 2CV, but this time for at least two days!

Such loveliness inspires one to paint, garden, and write poetry. Thank you for opening my heart to the beauty of Monet's paintings. His art awakens and reminds us to all that is beautiful in nature. The soul is a flower. In the hands of Monet, it too grows. His cathedral is a canvass of beauty.

Bonjour,

I just wanted to let you know that October is a good time in which to visit Giverny, and Monet's gardens. The orange, yellow, and green leaves reflected in the Water Lily pond are exquisite. You can spend hours in the gardens, calmly, with time to reflect on and appreciate the beauty around you. I encourage you to go now if possible. You will remember it forever.

This page was a great help in locating acommodations etc., unfortunately The Hotel Normandy did not live up to expectations and is NOT reccommended by us. Poor customer service, our reservation was lost, they attempted to overcharge us, and the rooms were full of sewer gas and deisel fumes, and to top it off, our scattered belongings were collected and dumped in a different room without asking or notifying us. FYI.

A lovely stretch of the Seine - but what really made it was beetling around in a 2CV. Now I know how Monet felt when he drove into town to buy his paints!! And the kids loved it too. Highly recommended, gives you great freedom and mobility to look around what is actually a quite rural area and not expensive. Give Thierrry an email to book it - and don't forget your driving license!

best experience of our week-end. We would rather recommend the rental of
a 2CV : it is a funny, easy to drive French car, and it is both cheaper
(though incredible this may seem !) and less tiring than the bicycle.
Anyway, discovering the area round Giverny is really a wonderful moment
and the website is great too !

The best way to get to Giverny is by bicycle, and your site has 3 places that rent bikes from Vernon. I bike all over Paris by bike, and even have written a guide about it! Many people go to Giverny, but they forget to also go to Vetheuil, which I think is prettier. It's a magnificant bike ride, going from Vetheuil to Giverny, you really get a sense of the Impressionist landscape and see many subjects that Monet painted.

I've had the wonderful opportunity to view some of Monet's original works. Although the site's images aren't as impressive as the real thing, it's great to see his entire collection. The annotations throughout the site are also very interesting. It all makes me want to make a trip to Giverny. Maybe someday. Until then, I'll be visiting this site again.

I really enjoyed looking through this site. However, I am looking for one piece in particular. I saw a piece at the Seattle Art Museum last night that I have seen nowhere else.Unfortunatley I can not remember the name of the piece. It was a very dark piece depicting a ship in a storm. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. thanks

My wife and I are in Paris on September 3 in the 12th arr.

advice. We would like to train to Vernon and spend the day.
Do you feel that is practical? And if so where would we get
the Metro to get to the correct train station.

If you can, your help would be greatly appreciated.

Matt, We are planning on going to Giverny on Friday, October 8, 1999, from Paris. How do we buy the discount tickets and what would be the best way to arrive from the train station for two people? Where should we eat lunch/ I read that the Hotel Baudy or is it Hotel Bandy in Giverny would be a nice place to eat so we could see the rose gardens there. Is this true? Is it true that Friday is the best day to visit? What time do we need to leave Paris, on what train, to get there when Monet's Garden opens? Sorry for all the questions. Thankyou.

Hi,

We're back in New York and can't stop talking about our 2 CV.
It was so much fun !!! Giverny was more beautiful than I had imagined. The
discounted tickets you offer for Monet's house were a great bonus. The line
was so long and we just walked right in!
The surrounding towns are so picturesque. We went to Fourges and to the
Chateau La Roche Guyon...we even climbed to the top. Send me your address and
I'll send you a photo of me & Eddie for your book. Good luck on your new
business and we hope to come back next year !

Giverny,Monet, the Seine. Tres magnifique!Even for the military historians there is Field Marshal Rommel's headquaters chateau at la Roche Guyon, a few kilometers north where the Harvard educated Duke De RochFoucauld grows superb mushrooms for the Paris gourmet restaurants on the Germens bunks inside the white chaulk cliff caves.

We just returned from Giverny and loved it! It was extra fun when we discovered that we could be driven from the train station to Giverny, receive a 10 ff reduction off each ticket to the Museum and gardens, and best of all, enter through the "group" entrance rather than wait in a long line at the main entrance. All this for only 100 ff. Since there was four of us, we saved 40 ff on the admission price, got in early and asked the driver to pick us up at our convenience rather than wait for the bus to the train station. Great deal. I highly recommend it. The drivers/cars sit opposite the bus stop. You will pay 20 ff per person for the bus. The car cost 100 ff regardless of the number of passengers. It is the best deal in town but the car company, owned and operated by several young, helpful entrepreneurs, is not allowed to advertise so. French law do not permit one company to advertise that they are better than another. Give them a try. You will enjoy it and save some time and money. We cannot wait to return. Merci!

I like this website how the art is displayed. A lot of sites you have to know the name of the painting. This site you can visually identify the painting you want. It is much easier that way. Our second visit to Giverny June 1999 was better than our first in August 97. This time we discovered 2CV rental... and it made all the difference! Extremely friendly people... and this one day rental is not only the most economical thing we found in all of France, but it's a BLAST! We're all still talking about what a great day we had tooling around the Giverny area in our little blud Citroen. You MUST give this a try. You'll enjoy Monet's house for sure, but also get to see a little more of this beautiful area.

I teach 3rd graders about Claude Monet so this site has been a helpful way to allow them to experience some of the beauty of Monet's garden and art work. I hope to visit the gardens myself this summer and am looking forward to seeing the water lilies in bloom. I would recommend two other children's books about Monet's garden: Once Upon a Lily Pad by Joan Sweeney and Philippe in Monet's Garden by Lisa Jobe Carmack. Both are delightful stories about the frogs that lived in Monet's garden. Merci!

I have made plans to come to Giverny for the month of August
and I will be staying in one the homes of Eric and Christelle Carriere.
their residence is: 6 rue aux Juifs
27620 Giverny
I am setting up an independent study for painting
through one of the colleges here in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania
I was hoping that I would be able to get a special pass
for the month of August that I am in Giverny to paint in
MonetÕs Garden and a pass for the American museum. Since
I will be paying for the entire trip on my own, I am trying
to defray the costs. I understand that there is a daily
entrance fee for both MonetÕs Garden and the American Museum.
I was hoping that I could get an Artist flat fee for the
month or a pass to help me with the overall cost of entering
the museums each day. I am also concerned about artists
materials and the such for my trip.
If anyone could help me out I would appreciate it. This
independent study is very important to me. I can't wait!

Two years ago my husband and I visited Monet's garden as a part of our pearlwedding trip. The weather wasn't to good, but we still hartfully enjoyed the beautiful garden. I often dream of coming back. In the meantime I just love to go to this wonderful spot on the web.
I link to this site from my own homepage. Unfortunatly I have written only in Swedish so far. Perhaps I will make a translation if I only could stop spending all my time putting in new stuff into the site.

It is so beautiful! I have never had the pleasure of visiting but maybe someday. However, I am trying to research an artist that was a contempary of C. Monet. A lady artist named Mary McMauney. The spelling is perhaps not correct. I only heard it spoken so I am going only by sound. Do you have any information on her? This is very important to me. Thank you so much.

I have been to Giverny a couple of times as a painter, and your site brings back memories of those hot August days. This URL is a link to my Grand Avenue painting - it seemed sad that Camille Doncieux died before she saw Giverny, so I have taken the liberty of painting her there, as she might so easily have been. Well done for such a top-rate site and best wishes to all!
