It is great to revisit Vernon and Monet's Giverny through your wonderful site. You literally helped us plan the first leg of our trip to Normandy back in May of 1999. We were then living in Germany near the border of France. The maps on site and local places to stay were such great help. We arrived late on a Thursday evening in Vernon and stayed at the accommodating Hotel Normandy. They offered a car park just outside as well as a nice, clean room and great breakfast. The hotel was also a short drive to Monet's home and gardens. The weather was just beautiful during our visit. We were also extremely delighted that the water lilies had begun to bloom as early as late May. Even the gift shop was great and our families loved the variety of momentos we sent them. We followed our tour of the historic house and gardens with a romantic lunch just down the road at "Les Jardins de Giverny." Wonderful gourmet cousine was served under umbrella topped tables on their lawn. We continued with sights around town, the old mill, etc. and finished our perfect day with a tasty visit to "La Verger de Giverny," a beautiful apple cider farm also listed on your site. Wow...we love reminiscing about our travels, and that is why I love revisiting your site. Thank you for providing accurate and detailed information to others on such a wonderful destination in France to visit. Best wishes to all who travel there.

Thank you for having such an informative website dedicated to such and awesome artist. It's unfortunate, however, that my favorite painting done by him was not to be found anywhere on the site. It's "Cammile on her Deathbed", and when I saw that piece at the Dallas Museum of Art, it literally moved me to tears. You should add it to the site. It's beautiful.

I am still moved to tears by the memories of one of my BEST days; 15 years ago, the sights and smells of Vernon, the walk to Giverny, the gardens on an early May Saturday, the picnic under the apple tree and the owner of bar that wrapped my lilacs in dampened pages of the newspaper.

This trip will be with my husband in tow on March 10th -- as gardeners we will come and be disappointed by not being able to see The Garden at its best -- in its full early spring potential. We will come, and will appreciate the good soil, light, and clear vision.

Thanks you for renewing my memories of that life changing day.

Bonne chance

I plan a trip to France in the near future, perhaps October. Will it be warm then? How far from Paris? I have always loved Monet and want to see his home.
Is there bus service from Paris to G. I will stay in Paris and make side trips to nearby towns, such as Versailles also. Could you tell me womething else I should see.
Thanks

I visited Versaille in June 2000. My daughter was taking an art history class thru the University Of Kansas. I traveled along as a guest student. On a few weekend we visted the palace, once to tour the palace and again the next day to see the gardens and the fountains. It will always be a treasured memory. I hope to return again someday.

I spent a day at Giverney last summer (2000)in July. It was a wonderful experience, far better than any of the books or videos I had seen. I hope to make the journey again before I die. I went to Canberra last week to see the Monet & Japan exhibition. It had much more meaning having seen the real place.

Monets Garden is wonderful, so is Bizy Chateau it is only a pity that the Chateau has probably the rudest Guide in France. I can understand why there were so few people there on the day we visited, they must have heard about him.

The site was very useful when I visited in July 1999. I am coming again in May 2001. I have an ambition to visit Giverny every month of the year that it opens. I come for the gardens because I have my first garden in 15 years to plant. I have used the seeds I bought at Giverny to bring a bit of France to England.

Is there another email address or can I use this address so I can contact someone and give a description of the painting? I want to find the name so I can locate a print for my daughter's birthday. I am 17 and this past summer I went to Europe for my first time ever, and while we were in France we visited Monet's garden. Even though it was freezing cold and rainy, I think I have never been in a garden more beautiful. I love how I was hit with the immediate scent of roses, my favorite flower. Even though I may never return, I will never forget it. Thanks for keeping it alive.

My father and I are wanting to take the trip of a lifetime to visit Monet's gardens and paint there ourselves, if this is allowed. Your website is very comprehensive, the pictures beautiful, the discriptions in English very useful as well as interesting, and the local hotel information especially helpful. I saw that "picnicking" and "dogs" are not allowed, but never did find a mention of whether setting up an easel and painting is allowed within the gardens. If anybody knows any information about this, please e-mail me. I sure would appreciate it :-)

I have been to Giverney a few times, and would recommend it to anyone after a peaceful holiday in beautiful surroundings. I stayed at the lovely Mde Fouche's B&B in rue de la Dime.
The first time I went there, my husband and I hired a 2CV car and had a fantastic time driving around the country side in it. I cannot find it now on the website and was wondering if it is still possible to hire one. I have a friend travelling to Giverney in June and she is interested in hiring one.

LOVED this web site! Have seen Monet in Europe and the US, and am a huge fan. I found this website, preparing my weekly art-class in my son's first grade class. Challenging to capture' their understanding of art history. Now they will remember "The King of Light" for ever! (we are doing "My Monet" with fruit-loops!, before we start painting dots' next week!) Thanks a million!

My family and I are visiting Normandy next week (10 - 17 February 2001), and we all very excited - and have been practising our French (sorry, but we are not very good!). The whole area sounds fascinating, but I was really looking forward to visiting Giverny, and Monet's garden, but it will not be open!! I know it is not the best time of year for a visit, but it is the only time we can make at the moment. I absolutely love your site about it, unfortunately it had "wetted my appetite" even more! I was in France 2 years ago this July. I fell in love with Giverney and the country side of France. I stayed in Paris but I feel the rest of the country side and small towns we drove through were more beautiful than I could imagine. It was like being in a movie. I'm looking forward to going back, hopefully sooner than later. My plan would be to stay in Vernon or possibly Normandy. i don't fell that a day and a a half was nearly enough time. Thank you for such a beautiful country.

Monet spent 2 months in Norway in the winter of 1895 and painted 26 pictures while he was there. I have seen a Christmas card with one of those paintings named SANDVIKEN, NORWAY. I would like to know where Sandviken is--I believe it is a suburb of Bergen. Could you tell me if this is true?
Here are the other winter paintings he did in Norway:Could you tell me where these places are and where I could see reproductions of the paintings?
Views of houses at and around Bjornegaard (4 papintings)
Views of a small village, Sandviken (3 paintings)
Views of a fjord near Christiana (4 paintings)
Views of houses at Kirkernd (2 paintings)
Views of Mount Kolsaas (13 paintings)
Where are these places, and where could I see pictures of the paintings?
I am a Norwegian American and I love the beautiful country of Norway, and was surprised to find that Monet had been there in 1895, painting winter scenes. I would like to know more about these paintings, and the locations.

Thank you for your help.
